1888 Decision by WPRFU to purchase a 'wooded site' at Newlands for £2 500
1890 First match at Newlands on 31 May - Stellenbosch defeat Villagers by a goal and a try - attendance 2 400
1891 On 5 September WE McLagan's British team defeated SA 4-0 with an attendance of 3 000
1919 First permanent concrete stand erected - £ 5 000
1927 New Grand Stand erected - £ 15 000 - and the field changed to run North-South
1931 The South Stand enlarged at a cost of £ 12 000
1953 Parts of New Grand Stand and South Stand completed - £ 200 000
1955 Fourth Bay of Grand Stand, Presidential Room, Lift and extension to lower gallery completed
1970 Balance of Grand Stand and offices completed
1971 Headquarters of SA Rugby move to Newlands
1973 Open North Stand completed at a cost of R290 000
1979 New Railway Stand completed - R1,7 million
1983 Private suites and function rooms erected on top of North Stand - R3,5 million
1985 Demolition of old South Stand
1987 New Danie Craven Stand inaugurated with 66 private suites and 12 function rooms - R10,5 m
1988 Installation of 10 253 chairs to replace all concrete seats in the Railway and North Stands at a total cost of R200 000
1988/9 Urgent repairs to Grand Stand - R1,3 m
