- 1989 Installation of new public address system and filling in of north corners with 21
private suites and a new presidential suite - R6,5m. Construction of new parking garage in
conjunction with the South Life Association Limited
- 1990 100 years of the Newlands Rugby Stadium Union in South African Rugby. Phase one of
the Newlands re-development commences. R33m re-development of the Grand Stand - 48 private
suites, extension to the Lower Gallery with a further 1 333 debenture seats
- 1992 Tower block constructed to provide access to the new private suites on the Grand
Stand. Boundary Road resurfaced and widened. New fencing and upgrading of the Liesbeek
River area. All wooden seats replaced with modern concrete ones - R2m. Changing rooms
upgraded - R500 000. Offices, Laundry, boardroom and new first aid facilities renovated

- 1993 Phase one completed
- 1994 Phase Two commences. Re-development of the Railway Stand - R41 m. Newlands capacity increases to 50 064 through 56 private suites and function rooms (1 474
seats), 389 seats for the media, 20 radio broadcast booths and a further 1 624 seats for
public. Replacement of roof sheeting on the North Stand - R472 000. New electronic
scoreboards - R1,5m. Construction of helipad on roof of parking garage - R350 000.
Purchase of Mill House
- 1994 Phase Three Commences. Development of B field into National Sports Science
Institute (30m) which will accommodate inter alia the SA Rugby Football Union and act as
the media centre for RWC '95
- 1995 Phase Two and Three completed. Newlands is ready and waiting to welcome the world
with the Rugby World Cup 1995
- 1996 Re-naming of the stadium to Norwich Park Newlands
- 1997 Re-development of the Danie Craven Stand - 42 private suites, Jan Pickard Stand -
19, Boardroom Suites, Grand Stand Lower Gallery - 470 debenture seats
- 1998 Railway Stand Mall - 16 Boardroom suites as well as an entertainment/ conference
facility
- 1999 Relaying of new drainage system and field. Rugby Shop opens in Boundary Road
- 2000 Re-naming of stadium to Fedsure Park Newlands, due to merger of Norwich and Fedsure
- 2002 Investec acquisition of former sponsor Fedsure. Investec opt to change the name of the
stadium back to simply Newlands
